Veteran defenseman Brodeur back for third season with Adirondack

Glens Falls, N.Y. – The Adirondack Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils, announced that they have signed defenseman Mathieu Brodeur to a contract for the 2017-18 season.

Brodeur returns for his third season with the Thunder, his eighth overall as a professional. Brodeur appeared in 15 games with the team a season ago and collected 19 points (4g-15a) before he earned an American Hockey League contract with the Syracuse Crunch in November. Brodeur collected 13 points (3g-10a) in 56 regular-season contests with Syracuse and also appeared in all 22 of the team’s Calder Cup playoff games as the Crunch finished as Eastern Conference champions. Brodeur picked up four (1g-3a) playoff points, including the game-winning goal in Game 5 of the Calder Cup Finals against Grand Rapids.

The 27-year-old has amassed 49 points (13g-36a) in 85 games with Thunder, including a team-leading 30 points (9g-21a) among defensemen in the 2015-16 season. The Montreal native has appeared in 440 games throughout his professional career and reached the 300-game plateau in the AHL in April 2017 from stints with San Antonio, Portland, Chicago, Albany and Syracuse throughout his AHL career. Brodeur has collected 66 points (15g-51a) in the AHL to go along with 217 penalty minutes and a +8 rating. He was selected by the Phoenix Coyotes in the third round (76th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
