Colorado wins 2018 Kelly Cup title

Eagles capture second consecutive title with Game 7 win

The Colorado Eagles captured their second consecutive Kelly Cup championship on Saturday with a 3-2 win over the Florida Everblades in Game 7 of the 2018 Kelly Cup Finals at Germain Arena in Estero, Florida.

Gabriel Verplaest scored the game-winning goal while shorthanded with 2:29 remaining in regulation.

Colorado, which defeated South Carolina 4 games to 0 last year, joins Allen (2015 and 2016), Toledo (1993 and 1994) and Hampton Roads (1991 and 1992) as the only back-to-back champions in the ECHL's 30-year history.

It was just the fifth time in ECHL history that the Finals series was decided in seven games (1989, 1999, 2009, 2015, 2018).

Michael Joly was named Most Valuable Player of the 2018 Kelly Cup Playoffs after posting a postseason leading 29 points (13g-16a) in 24 games.

Joly led the Eagles in the Kelly Cup Finals with four goal and nine points while Stephen MacAulay led Florida with four goals and seven points.
