INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – The Kansas City Mavericks have signed defenseman Riley Sweeney for the 2018-19 season.

The Mavericks are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Calgary Flames and the American Hockey League's Stockton Heat.

Sweeney’s rights were acquired via trade with the Indy Fuel on Tuesday in exchange for defenseman Alex Brooks.

Sweeney played in his first professional season last year, registering 13 points (2g-11a) in 52 games between the Fuel and Greenville Swamp Rabbits. With Indy, Sweeney finished with 11 points (2g-9a) in 46 games to help guide the Fuel to the team’s first-ever playoff berth.

The 25-year-old played for Michigan Tech in his collegiate career, skating in 157 games with the Huskies. Throughout his four seasons, the Vancouver, British Columbia native tallied 38 points (4g-34a) and 82 penalty minutes.
