Utah's Cannata named CCM/ECHL Goaltender of the Week

Joe Cannata of the Utah Grizzlies has been named the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for the week of Nov. 19-25. It is the second time this season and fourth time in his career that he has received the weekly honor.

Cannata posted shutouts in both of his appearances last week, making 18 saves in a 4-0 win against Allen on Wednesday and stopping 35 shots in a 5-0 victory over the Americans on Friday.

The 28-year-old has recorded shutouts in each of his last three appearances, and enters the week on a 193:18 shutout streak while making 88 consecutive saves.

Under a National Hockey League contract with the Colorado Avalanche, Cannata has appeared in 11 games with the Grizzlies this season going 7-2-2 with three shutouts, a 2.36 goals-against average and a save percentage of .913.

A native of Wakefield, Massachusetts, Cannata has seen action in 70 career ECHL games with Utah, Colorado, South Carolina, Ontario and Kalamazoo posting an overall record of 46-17-6 with six shutouts, a 2.29 goals-against average and a save percentage of .924. He captured the 2018 Kelly Cup title with Colorado, going 16-7 with a 2.55 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage during the postseason. He also has 118 games of AHL experience with San Antonio, Hershey, Utica and Chicago where he is 55-41-10 with two shutouts, a 2.76 goals-against average and a save percentage of .903.

Prior to turning pro, Cannata spent four seasons at Merrimack College, where he went 59-46-16 with seven shutouts, a 2.47 goals-against average and a save percentage of  .917 save-percentage.
