Matt Tomkins of the Indy Fuel has been named the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for the week of Jan. 21-27. It is the third time this season and fourth time in his career that he has received the weekly honor.
Tomkins went 2-0-0 with one shutout, a 1.00 goals-against average and a save percentage of .970 in two appearances last week.
The 24-year-old stopped all 30 shots he faced in a 5-0 win against Fort Wayne on Friday and made 37 saves in a 4-2 victory over Kalamazoo on Saturday.
A native of Sherwood Park, Alberta, Tomkins is 18-11-2 in 33 appearances with the Fuel this season with a 2.95 goals-against average and a save percentage of .911. He leads the ECHL in wins (18), minutes played (1,975) and saves (998).
Under contract to Rockford of the American Hockey League, Tomkins has seen action in 58 career games for Indy with a record of 29-20-5, a 3.16 goals-against average and a save percentage of .912. He also has appeared in eight games for Rockford.
Prior to turning pro, Tomkins appeared in 67 career games at Ohio State University where he went 28-26-7 with three shutouts, a 3.03 goals-against average and a save percentage of .898.
