Duluth, Ga. – The Atlanta Gladiators have re-signed forward Avery Peterson for the 2019-20 season.
The Gladiators are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Boston Bruins and the American Hockey League's Providence Bruins.
Last year, his first as a pro, was a well-traveled one. He spent time with four different teams; the Idaho Steelheads, Norfolk Admirals Indy Fuel and the Gladiators. Peterson combined to score 15 points (4g-11a) in 41 games as a rookie.
A native of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, Peterson joined the pro ranks after splitting his collegiate career between the University of Nebraska-Omaha and the University of Minnesota-Duluth. During his first season at UMD in 2016-17, the Bulldogs advaced to the Frozen Four where they lost to Denver in the NCAA National Championship. The following season, UMD catured the National Title with a 2-1 victory over Notre Dame.
Peterson was named Minnesota’s “Mr. Hockey,” an award given to the best high school hockey player in the state, in his final season at Grand Rapids High School. He earned the honor by scoring 65 points (35g-30a) in 25 games. He graduated as the school’s all-time points leader (203) and was selected by the Minnesota Wild in the sixth round (167th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
