Royals agree to terms with Melanson

Royals agree to terms with Melanson

Reading, Pa. – Forward Drew Melanson has agreed to a contract with the Reading Royals for the 2019-20 season.

The Royals are the ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the American Hockey League.

The 24-year-old tallied 29 points (12g-17a) in 50 games for Maine as a rookie last season and earned 10 AHL games with Hartford where he added one goal.

Melanson won the Hockey East championship and played all 40 games in his graduate transfer season at Boston University in 2017-18, registering 19 points (6g-13a). Prior to transferring to Boston, Melanson played three seasons at RPI, where he had his best offensive season as a freshman, tallying 20 points (9g-11a) and earning a spot on the 2014-15 ECAC All-Rookie Team. Melanson made it to the 2014 Clark Cup Finals while playing with Waterloo in the United States Hockey League.
