Cincinnati, Ohio -The Cincinnati Cyclones have signed defenseman Kyle Rhodesand forward Jake Smithto contracts for the 2019-20 season.
The Cyclones are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Buffalo Sabres and the American Hockey League's Rochester Americans.
A native of Ashburn, Virginia, Rhodes spent last season with the Tulsa Oilers, accounting for 16 points (11g-5a) in 50 games played. The 21-year-old began his pro career late in the 2017-18 campaign, spending five games with the Oilers and one with the Indy Fuel. He recorded three points (2g-1a) in those contests.
Prior to turning pro, Rhodes enjoyed a four-year career in the Ontario Hockey League with the Guelph Storm and Sudbury Wolves. In 220 OHL games, he totaled 47 points (14g-33a) along with 175 penalty minutes. He also served as team captain for the Wolves in 2017-18.
Smith comes to Cincinnati after spending last season at Carleton University. In 27 games with the Ravens, the 22-year-old led the team in scoring with 35 points (17g-18a), while also leading the squad in postseason scoring with five points (1g-4a) in eight games.
Before Carlton University, Smith spent two seasons in the Canadian Hockey League with Acadie Bathurst, Chicoutimi, and Val-d'Or in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and Windsor of the OHL totaling 113 points (52g-61a) in 179 games.
