Payne joins Railers for rookie season

Payne joins Railers for rookie season

Worcester, Mass. – The Worcester Railers Hockey Club, ECHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, announced that the club has signed forward Cody Payneto a contract for the 2019-20 season.

The 25-year-old enters his first pro season after spending the last three seasons at the University of Prince Edward Island where he recorded 70 points (39g-31a) along with 174 penalty minutes in 88 games.

Prior to playing at the University of Prince Edward Island, Payne spent five seasons in the Ontario Hockey League from 2010-15 with the Oshawa Generals, Plymouth Whalers, Saginaw Spirit and Niagara IceDogs accumulating 140 points (69g-71a) along with 281 penalty minutes in 286 games.

The Weston, Floirda native was selected by the Boston Bruins in the fifth round (145th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
