INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – The Kansas City Mavericks announced the club has re-signed forward Matt Schmalz.
Schmalz, a native of Dunnville, Ontario was a bright spot for the Mavericks last season after being acquired from the Indy Fuel. In 20 games with Kansas City, Schmalz compiled 14 points (6g-8a). For the season, Schmalz had 29 points (12g-17a) in 42 games with the Mavericks, Indy and Worcester Railers. In 149 career ECHL games, Schmalz has 91 points (44g-47a).
Schmalz was a fifth-round pick (134th overall) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings. In three games with the American Hockey League’s Ontario Reign in 2016, Schmalz had a goal and an assist.
