BOISE, Idaho – The Idaho Steelheads have re-signed forward Max Coatta and added his brother, Sam Coatta, for the 2020-21 season
Max Coatta returns to the Steelheads after completing his first full professional season during the 2019-20 campaign. Through 42 games played, the 26-year-old tallied 13 points (7g-6a).
Prior to his professional career, he completed his junior hockey career with the United States Hockey League's Waterloo Black Hawks during the 2014-15 season, tabbing 29 points (15g-14a) in 60 games. He also played with the USHL's Lincoln Stars and British Columbia Hockey League's Penticton Vees in 2013-14, combining for 36 points (15g-21a) in 58 games. Max went on to play four seasons of collegiate hockey at Minnesota State University-Mankato and was named an alternate captain during his senior season.
Sam Coatta joins the Steelheads after five seasons of international play in Sweden (Amals SK and Visby/Roma) and Norway (Manglerud and Stjernan Hockey). During the 2019-20 season with Sterjnan Hockey, he tallied 26 points (9g-17a) in 29 games.
Before heading overseas, the 30-year-old played two seasons in the USHL with the Sioux Falls Stampede boasting 59 points (24g-35a) in 130 games played. Sam was named as a team captain during the 2010-11 campaign before heading to play four seasons at Union College where he tallied 31 points (14g-17a) in 145 career games.
