INDIANAPOLIS – The Indy Fuel, ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Chicago Blackhawks and the A,merican Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs, announced that they have re-signed defenseman Cliff Watson to a contract for the 2020-21 season.
Watson joined the Fuel in late January via a trade with the Kansas City Mavericks. The 26-year-old skated in 53 games between Indy and Kansas City during the 2019-20 season, earning 31 points (5g-26a). A native of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Watson has played 122 career ECHL games with Utah, Colorado, Kansas City and Indy, compiling 75 points (24g-51a). Watson captured a Kelly Cup title with Colorado in 2018, earning six points (2g-4a) in 22 postseason contests.
A sixth-round seelction (168th overall) by the San Jose Sharks in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Watson has appeared in 37 career AHL games with Utica, San Jose, Stockton, Hershey, Ontario and Chicago.
