Verhaeghe is FloHockey/ECHL Alumnus of the Month

Former Kansas City Mavericks’ forward Carter Verhaeghe of the Florida Panthers is the FloHockey ECHL Alumnus of the Month for March.

The 25-year-old scored 10 goals, added six assists and was a +13 in 16 games during the month. Verhaeghe picked up at least one point in 10 of his 16 games in March, with four multi-point games which included a four-point game (3g-1a) on March 27 at Dallas.

A native of Toronto, Verhaeghe recorded 25 points (8g-17a) in 20 games with the Mavericks in 2015-16 and added 32 points (12g-20a) in 16 games in 2016-17.

Selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the third round (82nd overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Verhaeghe has tallied 43 points (26g-17a) in 88 career NHL games with Florida and Tampa Bay, and captured a Stanley Cup title with the Lightning in 2020. He has totaled 175 points (73g-102a) in 211 career American Hockey League games with Toronto, Bridgeport and Syracuse.

The ECHL has had 501 players reach the NHL since 2002-03 when it changed its focus to become the primary developmental league for the NHL and the AHL. There have been 437 ECHL players who have played their first game in the last 16 seasons for an average of more than 27 per year.
