Wichita agrees to terms with McKay

WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's San Jose Sharks and American Hockey League's San Jose Barracuda, announced the signing of defenseman Chris McKay for the 2022-23 season. McKay was acquired as a part of the future considerations deal that completed a three-team deadline trade last season between Wichita, Rapid City and Florida.

McKay completed his second year as a pro in 2021-22. A native of Edmonton, Alberta, he began the season with the Toledo Walleye before being traded to the Florida Everblades. He helped the Everblades knock off the Walleye in the Kelly Cup Finals this past season. McKay finished with 16 points (4g-12a) in 46 games between the two teams.

He turned pro in 2020-21, signing with the Southern Professional Hockey League's Pensacola Ice Flyers, where he captured the President's Cup title. In 32 games for the Ice Flyers, he tallied two helpers.

Prior to turning pro, McKay played four seasons at RIT. He was named as an alternate captain during his senior campaign. In 123 career games, he registered 28 points (5g-23a) for the Tigers.
