Mike Cazzola of the Fort Wayne Komets is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Dec. 12-18.
Cazzola scored five goals and added four assists for nine points in three games last week.
The 25-year-old had three points (1g-2a) in a 6-5 loss at Wheeling on Friday, picked up an assist in a 4-3 win over the Nailers on Saturday and had five points (3g-2a) - including his first pro hat trick - in a 7-1 victory against Orlando on Sunday.
A native of Guelph, Ontario, Cazzola is second among ECHL rookies with 27 points and is third among first-year players with 11 goals and seven power-play points.
Cazzola spent the previous four seasons at Acadia University where he recorded 133 points (52g-81a) in 107 career games. Prior to enrolling at Acadia, he tallied 225 points (77g-148a) in 219 career games in the Ontario Hockey League with Erie and Ottawa.
On behalf of Mike Cazzola, a case of pucks will be donated to a Fort Wayne youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 35,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
