Verhaeghe named CCM/ECHL Player of the Month

Missouri Mavericks’ forward Carter Verhaeghe has been named the CCM ECHL Player of the Month for January.

Verhaeghe scored 11 goals, added 16 assists and was a +6 in 12 games during the month.

The 21-year-old posted multiple points in 10 of his 12 games, while picking up at least one point in each of the 12 contests. Verhaeghe had four points (1g-3a) in a 5-4 win against Cincinnati on Jan. 25 while tallying three points on three occasions. He was named ECHL Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 29 after scoring three goals and adding five assists in three games.

A native of Waterdown, Ontario, Verhaeghe has 27 points (11g-16a) in 13 games with the Mavericks this season and his 12-game point streak is tied for the second-longest streak in the ECHL this season. He has added eight points (4g-4a) in 19 games with Bridgeport of the American Hockey League this season.

Under an NHL contract with the New York Islanders, Verhaeghe has tallied 52 points (19g-33a) in 33 career ECHL games with Missouri while posting 23 points (10g-13a) in 49 career games with Bridgeport.

Prior to turning pro, Verhaeghe recorded 224 points (83g-141a) in 262 career games with Niagara of the Ontario Hockey League.

Runners Up: Bryan Moore, Allen (8 gp, 10g, 7a, 17 pts.). Matt Garbowsky, Colorado (13 gp, 17g, 7a, 24 pts.) and Ralph Cuddemi, Utah (11 gp, 12g, 6a, 18 pts).

Also Nominated: Kyle Thomas (Fort Wayne), Josh Shalla (Indy), Lane Scheidl (Kalamazoo), Alex Gacek (Orlando), Chris Francis (Quad City), Justin Crandall (Reading), Shane Berschbach (Toledo) and Christian Hilbrich (Wheeling).
