Mavericks add pair of rookie defensemen

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – The Kansas City Mavericks announced the signings of defensemen Brett Beauvais and Jordan Klimek for the 2018-19 season.

The Mavericks are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Calgary Flames and the American Hockey League's Stockton Heat.

Beauvais, 23, joins the Mavericks after completing his collegiate career in 2017-18 with Robert Morris, where he skated in 13 games for the Colonials. The defensive-minded defenseman totaled 12 penalty minutes in those 13 games. Prior to transferring to RMU, Beauvais played three seasons for Bemidji State where he totaled 20 points (4g-16a) and 58 penalty minutes in 101 games.

Through his junior career, Beauvais spent time both in the North American Hockey League and British Columbia Hockey League. He flashed his greatest offensive output in his final junior season in 2013-14 with the Penticton Vees, registering 58 points (13g-45a) in 57 games.

Klimek, 22, finished his collegiate career at Northern Michigan University last season. He served as an alternate captain and posted his best season on the offensive end, totaling 18 points (3g-15a) with a _16 rating in 43 games. Klimek claimed strong numbers in his own defensive zone throughout his tenure at Northern Michigan, finishing with a plus rating in three of four seasons and posting a career +23 rating.

The Langley, British Columbia native played one full season each in the BCHL and United States Hockey League prior to beginning his collegiate career in 2014-15, skating for the Surrey Eagles (BCHL) and Dubuque Fighting Saints (USHL).
