Wichita, Kan. - The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and American Hockey League's Bakersfield Condors, announced the signing of rookie forward Alex Gillies for the 2018-19 season.
Gillies, 23, turns pro after playing a four-year career at Michigan Tech where he was part of back-to-back WCHA championship teams. In 117 career games for the Huskies, he tallied 39 points (17g-22a).
A native of Vernon, British Columbia, Gillies played his junior career for the British Columbia Hockey League's Salmon Arm Silverbacks. He had a career year in 2013-14, piling up 58 points (28g-30a) in 46 games. Gillies was also a member of the Canadian World Junior A Challenge team that took the Bronze Medal.
