Steelheads agree to terms with Peterson

Boise, Idaho – Idaho Steelheads Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Neil Graham announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Avery Peterson on a contract for the 2018-19 season.

The Steelheads are the ECHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League and the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League.

Peterson, 23, begins his professional career after helping the University of Minnesota-Duluth win a National Championship last season. A sixth-round draft pick of the Minnesota Wild in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Peterson notched 11 points (6g-5a) in 30 games during his senior season for the Bulldogs.

A Grand Rapids, Minnesota native, Peterson spent time with both the University of Nebaraska-Omaha and Minnesota Duluth during his college career, transferring to UMD after the 2015-16 season. Between the two schools, Peterson totaled 48 points (24g-24a) in 108 NCAA games and also won a conference title with UMD in 2017. His best individual season came during his freshman campaign at Nebraska-Omaha, when he had 21 points (11g-10a) in 39 contests.
