Mavericks pick up three forwards

Mavericks pick up three forwards

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – The Kansas City Mavericks announced the signings of three forwards for the 2018-19 season, coming to terms with Danny Smith, Taylor McCloy and Connor Graham.

The Mavericks are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Calgary Flames and the American Hockey League's Stockton Heat.

Smith joined the Mavericks in January of last season and finished the year with 26 ECHL games under his belt. In his brief stint with the team, Smith totaled seven points (2g-5a) and 34 penalty minutes. The 26-year-old made his professional debut with the Huntsville Havoc of the Southern Professional Hockey League prior to joining Kansas City in 2017-18, posting 20 points (7g-13a) in 25 games.

The Edmonton, Alberta native skated in college for Rochester Institute of Technology, helping the Tigers to three conference titles. Over the course of his collegiate career, Smith totaled 48 points (20g-28a) and 94 penalty minutes in 135 games. 

McCloy is poised for his first full professional season after completing his collegiate career in 2017-18. The25-year-old skated for Adrian College, serving as an alternate captain during the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons.

Following his collegiate career in which he registered 110 points (51g-59a) in 99 games, the Keswick, Ontario native earned All-Conference honors after a career year during his senior campaign with 38 points (24g-14a) in 30 games. McCloy skated in two games with the Norfolk Admirals at the end of last season for his first taste of pro hockey.

Graham joins the Mavericks following two years with the University of Toronto. In his brief collegiate career, the Aurora, Ontario native totaled eight points (1g-7a) and 10 penalty minutes.

The 22-year-old played junior hockey with the Ottawa 67’s of the Ontario Hockey League, tallying 44 points (17g-27a) and 86 penalty minutes in 168 games.
