Boise, Idaho – Idaho Steelheads Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Neil Graham announced that the team has agreed to terms with rookie defenseman Clint Lewis on a contract for the 2018-19 season.
The Steelheads are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Dallas Stars and the American Hockey League's Texas Stars.
Lewis starts his professional career after three seasons with Minnesota State University-Mankato. The Burnsville, Minnesota native recorded seven assists, 22 penalty minutes and a +19 rating in 37 games last year during his senior season with the Mavericks.
The 23-year-old played 82 games with the Mavericks from 2015=18, totaling 23 points (3g-20a) with 85 penalty minutes and a +29 rating. He also spent the 2013-14 season at Cornell University, where he had two points (1g-1a) and 20 penalty minutes in 32 games.
Lewis left Cornell after one season and went to the United States Hockey League for the 2014-15 campaign, collecting 15 points (4g-11a) and 83 penalty minutes in 52 games for the Sioux City Musketeers. An alumnus of the US National Development Program, Lewis also played in the USHL from 2011-13.
In international competition for the US National Development Program, Lewis won a silver medal at the 2012 U-17 World Hockey Championships and a silver medal at the 2013 U-18 World Junior Championships.
