Walleye add defenseman Stewart

Toledo, Ohio – Defenseman Mackenze Stewart has agreed to terms for the 2018-19 season with the Toledo Walleye.

The Walleye are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Detroit Red Wings and the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins.

Stewart appeared in 56 games last season with the Kalamazoo Wings scoring 12 points (4g-8a) and adding 55 penalty minutes. He also appeared in a pair of AHL games for Utica with five penalty minutes. The native of Calgary, Alberta spent his first pro season in Alaska in 2016-17 where he posted 13 points (6g-7a) and had 117 penalty minutes.

The 23-year-old was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the seventh round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft while he playing for the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League. Over 163 career WHL contests, Stewart posted 31 points (15g-16a) and 230 penalty minutes. His final WHL season was in the 2015-16 season with Tri-City when Stewart collected 11 points (5g-6a) and 47 penalty minutes in 36 contests.
