INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel announced that they have agreed to terms with defenseman Matt Watson and forward Chase Lang for the 2022-23 season.
Watson spent last season in Germany playing for CE Timmendorfer Strand of the Regionalliga (Germany4) which is a professional hockey league in Germany. There, he scored 24 points (7g-17a) in 25 games.
Before his professional career began, Watson played three seasons at the University of Western Ontario, where he graduated with a degree in Criminology. During his freshman season, Watson tallied 11 points (4g-7a), which was second among defensemen on his team.
Prior to college, Watson spent four seasons between the Ontario Hockey League and Ontario Junior Hockey League skating in 155 total games and totaling 71 points (28g-43a). His most successful offensive season came in 2016-17 when he led the OJHL’s Burlington Cougars defensemen in scoring with 48 points (24g-24a) over 48 games.
Lang tallied three points (1g-2a) in eight games with Indy last season after being acquired in a trade from the Norfolk Admirals. Prior to the trade, Lang had 28 points (17g-11a) in 43 games with Norfolk. Lang led the Jacksonville Icemen in scoring during the 2019-20 season with 48 points (19g-29a) in 57 games. The 26-year-old also has seen action in 36 career American Hockey League games with Chicago and Iowa, recording five points (2g-3a).
Prior to turning pro, Lang skated in 244 games with Calgary and Vancouver in the Western Hockey League, totaling 155 points (66g-89a). Lang was selected by the Minnesota Wild in the sixth round (167th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
