Briere named Flyers interim General Manager

Former Maine Mariners' President/Governor Danny Briere was named the interim general manager of the National Hockey League's Philadelphia Flyers on Friday.

Briere was with the Mariners from their relocation to Maine in 2017 through February 2022, when he joined the Flyers' front office as special assistant to the general manager. He beocmes the third person with ECHL ties to serve as general manager of an NHL team joining Arizona's Bill Armstrong, who was head coach of Trenton from 2002-04, and Calgary's Brad Treliving, who played five seasons in the ECHL from 1990-95.

Briere played 973 NHL games over 17 seasons with the Phoenix Coyotes, Buffalo Sabres, Philadelphia Flyers, Montreal Canadiens and Colorado Avalanche. He finished just shy of 700 career points and was a two-time All-Star.
