Veteran Bushee, rookie Mullin sign with K-Wings

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Kalamazoo Wings, ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Tampa Bay Lightning, have signed veteran defenseman Kyle Bushee and rookie forward Jimmy Mullin for the 2016-17 season.

Bushee has made his mark as a steady ECHL defenseman since his debut in 2008 with the Cincinnati Cyclones. A native of Otsego, Mich., Bushee started last season with the Toledo Walleye before a trade that sent him to the Elmira Jackals, where he finished the campaign. Bushee registered 19 points (8g-11a) over the course of 67 games played between the two clubs.

Entering his ninth season of professional hockey in 2016, the 31-year-old has skated in 468 career ECHL games with five different teams, registering 171 points (45g-126a). He has also had stints in the American Hockey League, where he has played 22 career games, and Denmark, where he skated in 36 contests with the Aalborg Pirates during the 2014-15 season.

Prior to turning pro, Bushee spent two years at Western Michigan University (2003-05) before eventually transferring and concluding his amateur career with Canisius College in 2008.

Mullin is a rookie forward out of Cincinnati, Ohio. Having spent his last four years at the collegiate level, Mullin appeared in 94 games with Miami University and tallied 47 points (18g-29a) from 2011-14 before transferring to Minnesota State University-Mankato for his final season of eligibility.

The 24-year-old was a fourth-round selection (118th overall) of the Lightning in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
