John-Scott Dickson enters his third season as Kansas City’s head coach and director of hockey operations after being named to the position on June 30, 2016. Prior to taking over as Mavericks’ head coach in 2016-17, the 34-year-old spent two years as an assistant to former Mavericks’ head coach Richard Matvichuk..

Dickson skated as a player/assistant coach in 2014-15 before stepping behind the bench as a full time assistant last season. He played four seasons for the Mavericks and amassed 154 points (75g,-79a) along with 75 penalty minutes over 220 games. In addition to his regular season numbers, Dickson posted 15 points (10g-5a) in 26 Central Hockey League playoff games with the Mavericks. Dickson also played parts of four seasons in the ECHL with Alaska, Gwinnett and Idaho recording 30 points (9g-21a) in 73 games.

Prior to his professional playing career, Dickson spent five seasons each with the Ontario Hockey League’s Windsor Spitfires and the University of New Brunswick in Canadian Interuniversity Sport. He piled up 214 points (94g-120a) in 306 games with Windsor and 142 points (68g, 74a) in 188 games with the Varsity Reds. In 2014 Dickson was selected, in a fan vote, number three out of the top 10 most popular players in Mavericks’ history.
