Nelson re-signs with Wichita

Wichita, Kan. - The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the Ottawa Senators, announced the re-signing of forward Logan Nelson for the 2016-17 season.

Nelson, 23, was acquired last November in a trade with the Quad City Mallards. The third-year forward recorded five points (4g-1a) in seven games with the Mallards and added 16 points (9g-7a) in 47 games in Wichita to finish the season. He had a solid rookie season in 2014-15, scoring 28 points (16g-12a) in 43 games for Quad City.

A native of Rogers, Minn., Nelson was selected in the fifth round draft pick (133rd overall) by the Buffalo Sabres during the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Prior to turning pro, Nelson played three seasons for the Western Hockey League's Victoria Royals, where he piled up 159 points (60g-99a) in 179 games. His best season came during the 2011-12 campaign, when he collected 62 points (23g-39a) in 71 games.
