Royals agree to terms with Riley

Reading, Pa. – TheReading Royals, ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, announced the team signed forward Jack Riley to a contract for the 2018-19 season.

In five ECHL games last season, Riley generated two goals and added three assists. He scored goals in the final two games of the regular season against Norfolk. Riley signed with the Royals on March 21 after completing his senior campaign at Mercyhurst.

The 25-year-old was Mercyhurst's captain in each of his last two seasons at the school. In 2017-18, he ranked second on the team with 16 goals and 31 points, both personal NCAA highs. In March 2018, Atlantic Hockey honored Riley as “Best Defensive Forward.”

During his freshman campaign, Riley played in seven games, recorded an assist and missed the rest of the season due to injuries. After earning a redshirt, Riley skated in 150 games, tallying 101 points (41g-60a) over the next four seasons. He was named to the AHA All-Rookie Team in 2014-15.

Riley is a native of West Point, New York where his father, Brian, has been the Men’s Hockey Head Coach at Army since 2004. His grandfather, Jack, coached the United States Men’s Olympic Hockey Team to its first Gold Medal at the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics and served as Army Head Coach from 1950-86.
