READING, Pa. - The Reading Royals, ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, announced that the team has signed goaltender Hayden Hawkey.Hawkey was selected in the sixth round (177th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadians.
He has played in 23 career ECHL games with Kansas City, Wheeling, Allen and Tulsa with a 3.55 goals-against average and a save percentage of .881. Hawkey was named United States Hockey Leaue Goaltender of the Year with Omaha in 2013-14 after leading the league with a 1.99 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage. He was also honored with First All-Star Team and All-Rookie Team nominations.He attended Providence College after two seasons with Omaha. He posted a 2.02 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage in 125 career games with teh Friars. Hawkey was named to the Hockey East Second All-Star Team and the New England D1 All-Stars squad in his junior year and was a Hockey East All-Star Team Honorable Mention in his senior year.
