Quick is Bellevue University/ECHL Alumnus of the Month

Former Reading Royals’ goaltender Jonathan Quick of the Los Angeles Kings is the Bellevue University ECHL Alumnus of the Month for December.

The 35-year-old went 5-2-1 in eight appearances in December with one shutout, a 2.26 goals-against average and a save percentage of .922. He allowed two goals or less in five of his eight appearances and made at least 27 saves in five games.

A native of Milford, Connecticut, Quick appeared in 38 games for Reading in the 2007-08 season going 23-11-3 with one shutout, a 2.79 goals-against average and a save percentage of .905. He became the ninth goaltender in ECHL history to score a goal on Oct. 24, 2007 against Pensacola.

Selected by the Kings in the third round (72nd overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Quick has appeared in 686 career NHL games with Los Angeles posting an overall record of 345-256-73 with 56 shutouts, a 2.40 goals-against average and a save percentage of .913. He captured Stanley Cup titles in 2012 and 2014, and received the Conn Smythe Trophy as Most Valuable Player of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2012.

There have been 716 players who have played in the NHL after playing in the ECHL including 18 who have made their debut in 2021-22. The ECHL has had 524 players reach the NHL since 2002-03 when it changed its focus to become the primary developmental league for the NHL and the AHL. The ECHL had 97 players reach the NHL in its first 10 seasons and 215 in the first 15 years. There have been 460 ECHL players who have played their first game in the last 17 seasons for an average of more than 27 per year.
