Sawchenko makes NHL debut

Former Allen Americans' goaltender Zach Sawchenko became the 717th former ECHL player to reach the National Hockey League when he debuted with the San Jose Sharks on Sunday at Pittsburgh.

Sawchenko is the 19th former ECHL player to make his NHL debut during the 2021-22 season. He appeared in 20 games for the Americans in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, posting an overall record of 13-4-3 with two shutouts, a 2.42 goals-against average and a save percentage of .928.

A native of Calgary, Alberta, Sawchenko has seen action in 27 career games with San Jose of the American Hockey League where he is 10-13-2 with one shutout, a 3.27 goals-against average and a save percentage of .896.
