Coralville, Iowa –The Iowa Heartlanders announced that defenseman Riese Zmolek has agreed to terms on a contract for the 2022-23 season.Zmolek was an alternate captain for the Heartlanders last season and scored 19 points (4g-14a) in 45 games while leading the Heartlanders with 97 penalty minutes. He also played 10 games for the American Hockey League's Iowa Wild, adding two assists.
The 25-year-old had an impressive four-season career at Minnesota State from 2017-21, registering a +53 rating over 135 career games. The Mavericks qualified for three NCAA tournaments while Zmolek was on campus, and he captained the team to the 2021 Frozen Four, the school’s first since joining the Division I level.The Rochester, Minnesota native served as captain of the United States Hockey League’s Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in 2016-17.
