RIO RANCHO, N.M. - The New Mexico Goatheads, ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Colorado Avalanche and American Hockey League’s Colorado Eagles, announced that the team has signed forward Briley Wood to a contract for the 2026-27 season.

Wood joins New Mexico after spending the 2025-26 season with the Rapid City Rush, where he appeared in 71 games and recorded 32 points (10g-22a).

The 23-year-old enters his third professional season after an impressive rookie campaign in 2024-25. Wood began his pro career in 2024-25, tallying 47 points (20g-27a) in 72 games with the Utah Grizzlies, while also skating in one game with the Eagles.

Prior to turning professional, Wood spent five seasons in the Western Hockey League with Lethbridge, Winnipeg and Wenatchee. In his final season in 2023-24, he served as an alternate captain for Wenatchee and posted career highs with 28 goals, 34 assists and 62 points in 60 regular-season games before adding 13 points (6g-7a) in six playoff games.
